Персональная выставка "Линия жизни"

Что такое линия жизни? Это тот невидимый стержень, на который нанизываются события нашего бытия в безостановочном движении из прошлого в будущее. Память о плохом и хорошем, действительная и ложная, наша собственная память и память наших близких – из всей ее совокупности формируется наша индивидуальность. Этот проект – попытка автора проследить истоки собственной линии жизни. В его основу легли фотографии, аудиозаписи и воспоминания из семейного архива – материалы генеалогического исследования Л.И. Черкасовой, матери художницы.
Экспозицию открывает детский портрет художницы – метафора истока, от которого она начинает свой путь в историю своей семьи, где ее линия жизни переплетается с судьбами предков. Сквозь узоры времени проявляются образы прошлого – лица ближайших родственников автора. А пустые полотна выступают одновременно символами разлуки и сильной связи, семью художницы не миновала чаша репрессий 30-х годов. Прадед Марии Иван Алексеевич Черкасов провел в заключении 10 лет, а его брат Василий Алексеевич был расстрелян в 1937 году.
 Инсталляцию дополняют воспоминания Игоря Ивановича о своем детстве и о ссылке отца, в нить повествования которых вплетены шелкографии рисунков старых обоев, как символ воспоминаний нескольких поколений одной семьи. Можно ли ощутить ту шелковистую нить, которую плетут древние Парки? Наверное, нет. Но можно погладить время по пыльной поверхности с наивным советским узором. Оторвать от стены пахнущий временем лист, целую эпоху, и увидеть под ним следующий срез прошлого... Под шелест старых обоев.

 What is the life line? It is an invisible pin running through the events of our life as the past keeps on turning into the future ceaselessly. It consists of memories of the bad and the good, memories that can be both genuine and fake, our own memories and those of our loved ones – out of the sum of all the memories we grow into the future. This exhibition project is an attempt of the artist to trace the origins of her own line of life. The photographs, audio tapes and memoirs from the family archives i.e. the materials pertaining to the genealogical research of L.I. Cherkasova, the artist’s mother, laid the foundation of the exhibition.
A portrait depicting the artist in her childhood years is the opening of the display. The portrait is a metaphor of the start at which the artist sets off on a journey into the history of her family; it is a place where her line of life gets intertwined with the fate of her ancestors. The images of the past – the faces of the artist’s next of kin come to light through the ornaments of time at the center of the installation.
 The empty canvasses are both the symbol of severed lives and a strong bond, a reference to the sufferings of the artist’s family during the political repression in the 1930s. Ivan Cherkasov, the artist’s grandfather, spent 10 years in a labor camp. His brother Vasily was execute in 1937. Installation supplement memories of artists grandfather about his childhood and his father exile. The silk screen printings of the old wallpaper patterns are interwoven in a narrative thread. They symbolize the combined recollections of the several generations of the same family. Can one feel the silky thread being spun by the ancient Parcae? Probably not. However, one can still run one’s hand over the dusty surface of time graced with a na?ve Soviet-era pattern. One might as well peel off a sheet bearing the scent of time, and the entire era will come undone so that one can see the next cut of the past underneath… Вy the rustle of old wallpaper.
