Видео Маши Полуэктовой “Северная широта, восточная долгота” - это эксперимент с ролью звука и языка в нашем восприятии окружающей реальности, проверка того, насколько родной язык гарантирует наше ощущение “дома”. Художница зафиксировала на камеру свое исследование одного из промышленных городков Восточной Сибири и заменила все попавшие в него звуки на аналогичные, но записанные во время ее путешествия во Вьетнам. Внимательный зритель ощутит диссонанс между картиной заснеженных городских улиц и звуками тропического Вьетнама, но, с другой, стороны, услышит и универсальные, наднациональные, преодолевающие географию звуки – детский смех, лай собаки. Однако он/а может столкнуться с ситуацией неузнавания, неразличения двух соединенных тут Азий. Ведь зачастую жители европейской части России знают об особенностях азиатской ее части столь же мало, как и о других государствах этого региона.

The video by Masha Poluektova "North latitude, east longitude" is an experiment with the role of sound and language in our perception of reality, the check test on how the native language assures the sense of "home". Often people from the European part of Russia know as little about peculiarities of the Asian part of Russia as about other Asian countries.
